Dr. Tom GAlt
Dr. Robert Galt is the Senior Bishop of the United Evangelical Church of America
He is married to his wonderful wife Lorie, has two children, a daughter
25 and a son 33. He has 2 more children/grand children that he and his
wife are raising ages 6 and 7 along with 4 more grand children.
Having
had 4 strokes and by God's grace and healing, is overcoming, it has
given him a greater appreciation for life and those that are hurting and
are in need.
He
has also begun a new endeavor of helping to reach out to a growing
population in our society. That is grand parents raising their grand
children. He is the founder of the Grandparents to Parents Foundation. He
is drawing from his own experiences in raising two of his grand kids as
his own along with his wife Lorie. A first hand understanding of what
they are going through both legally and morally has been a great
inspiration and help.
Dr. Galt has been in the ministry for 36 years. He was born and raised in the heart of central Illinois in a farming community. He was
adopted when he was 2 years old from a situation that would be called
quite frankly grave. He states, "We had so little that because we would
be so hungry, I am told by my sister that we would peel the paint off
the walls just to have something to eat. We moved into a camper trailer
that was big enough for 2 people but there was 5 of us living there. My
mother, myself and 3 other siblings. Once someone felt sorry for us and
brought over a dozen eggs. My brother and I were standing there next to
my mother as she cleaned them and was ready to cook some for all of us.
She turned her head for a second and when she turned back one of the
eggs was gone. She looked to see if either my brother or I had it and
couldn't find it. My brother had taken the egg and in that split second
had popped it in his mouth and some how eaten it he was so hungry egg
shell and all. She found the evidence in his mouth."
But
through God's grace and direction he was adopted into a family that
took care of him and raised him on a family farm. It has given him a
greater understanding of the adoption that Christians go through when
they accept Christ. He gave his life to Christ while a junior in High
School thanks to a thoughtful Ag. teacher. He feels that this is a sad
state of affairs when school teachers today are not allowed to speak of
Christ in the schools because if this teacher had not been able to share
with him about Christ he doesn't know where he would be today.
Raised as a Catholic, he wanted as a child to be a priest. But, that was not to be as God had other plans. He left the Catholic Church and began attending an Assembly of God Church. Starting out as a youth minister at the age of 19, then associate pastor, God has used him in a variety of ways over these years. It has always been in his heart to help those that are hurting.
Through the years he has pastored, started new churches, evangelized, and has been in radio and participated in television ministry. His first love though has always been radio and writing. He is in the process of writing two books at this time. They should be finished soon. He is also compiling a book of his writings for the Peaceful Journey News letter and broadcast. Dr. Galt holds a Doctorate in Theology, a Doctor of Divinity, PhD in Pastoral Counseling, a PhD in Pastoral Psychotherapy and a Doctor of Ministry. He is Ordained by the United Evangelical Church of America.
